Mustang Girls Soccer Team Advances in State Tournament- Updated

Update: The Lady Mustangs lost to Central Catholic on Tuesday.

On Sunday the Lady Mustang soccer team earned a hard-fought, 2-1 double overtime win over Methuen in the first round of the state tournament.

Medford, 10-5-2, seeded ninth heading into the playoffs, earned the win on the road against eighth-seeded Methuen, who had a similar record, 10-4-6.

Isabella Sanchez was in goal for Medford. Colleen Hardy scored the Lady Mustangs’ first goal early in the first half. Lyndsey Martins scored the game-winning goal in the last four minutes of overtime, according to Head Coach Allison Colson.

The Lady Mustangs are once again on the road in the quarter final round of the tournament. Medford faces top seed Central Catholic, a team that entered the playoffs with an 18-0 record, which earned them a bye in the first round.

The game is taking place at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, November 8 at Central Catholic. The winner will face fourth seed Lincoln-Sudbury in the semi-final round at Woburn High School on November 10.
