MHSAA Announces Winners of First Annual Awards

Nelida Lepore, William Mazaka awarded with the first Medford High School Alumni Association awards

The Medford High School Alumni Association (MHSAA) has announced the inaugural recipients of two awards that will be presented at Medford Night 3 with Tom Convery and the Medford High School Alumni Association. Nelida Lepore and William “Bill” Mazaka are the recipients of the “Honorary Mustang” Award and the “Mustangs Give Back” Award, respectively.

The “Honorary Mustang” Award is presented to a member of the Medford High School Community that did not graduate from Medford High School, but exhibits and embodies the level of Mustang Pride to earn the distinction of being an Honorary Mustang. Nelida Lepore has been a Spanish teacher at Medford High School for nineteen years and her dedication to her students is seen both inside and outside of the classroom. She goes above and beyond to provide the best education to her students. Most days Nelida arrives to school at 6:00am and does not leave until at least 3:30pm in order to prepare her classes and offer extra help to students that need it. She advises the Foreign Language Club and guides students in broadening their foreign language experience at Medford High. Every year she also organizes a trip to a Spanish speaking country to provide students with a cultural enriching experience. Her dedication to the students of Medford High is admirable and she definitely deserves the distinction of being an “Honorary Mustang.”

The “Mustangs Give Back” Award is presented to an alum of Medford High School that has given back to Medford High as a teacher, staff member, administrator, coach, parent, or community supporter. Bill Mazaka graduated from Medford High in 1971 and has dedicated a forty year career working security at Medford High. His Mustang Pride is just as strong now as it was when he was a student at MHS. Bill is respected by both students and his fellow colleagues and he works effortlessly to ensure that a safe and caring learning environment is open to all students. He is an essential part of the MHS Community and always goes the extra mile to maintain the secure atmosphere of Medford High, which makes him deserving of the inaugural “Mustangs Give Back” Award.

Nelida Lepore and Bill Mazaka will both be honored at Medford Night 3 with Tom Convery and the Medford High School Alumni Association on Friday, November 28, 2014 at John Brewers Tavern on 7 Highland Avenue in Malden, MA. The MHSAA will be presenting Nelida and Bill with their awards at 8:00pm. This event is open to all members of the community and is a night of fun entertainment and socialization for Medford High alumni from all years. Tom Convery (’70) and the Medford High School Alumni Association invite alumni to come to honor Nelida and Bill, support the MHSAA, and have an enjoyable night.
