Tufts Music Department Presents ‘Schmalfest’

The Tufts University Department of Music presents Schmalfest, a special concert celebrating Professor Janet Schmalfeldt as a teacher, music theorist, and pianist at the culmination of her eighteen years in the Tufts Department of Music, in the Distler Performance Hall at the Perry and Marty Granoff Music Center on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 8 p.m.

At this sendoff event, Tufts colleagues and other friends will perform music from her favorite repertoires as well as premieres of new works composed in her honor alongside a few delightful surprises. The concert will feature a performance of Schubert’s Allegro in A Minor for Piano, Four Hands, the Lebensstürme, by Professor Schmalfeldt and Lois Shapiro. Other performers will include the Portsmouth Symphony String Quartet, a number of Tufts faculty musicians, and Tufts alumni (composers as well as singers). The evening is a fête not to be missed! A catered reception in Professor Schmalfeldt’s honor will follow the performances in the Granoff Music Center Lobby.

The Granoff Music Center is located at 20 Talbot Avenue on Tufts’ Medford/Somerville campus. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, please visit as.tufts.edu/music/musiccenter or call the Granoff Music Center Box Office at 617.627.3679.
