AC Cross Country Team Opens Season

The four-time defending Catholic Central League Champion Arlington Catholic Lady Cougar cross country team opened the 2013 season where they left off last year by winning their dual meet on Tuesday.

The Cougars defeated host Archbishop Williams 15-50 and St. Mary’s of Lynn 15-47 at Meadow Park in Braintree, according to Coach Jack Dempsey. Senior captain Kaitlin McCauley (Watertown) was the first Cougar to cross the finish line with a time of 21:35. She was followed closely by freshman Veronica Seguin (Bedford, 21:37), freshman Alexandra Kay (Melrose, 21:51), senior captain Olivia Stewart (Medford, 22:05), and junior Kathleen McLaughlin (Waltham, 22:06). Junior Grace Zukowski (Woburn, 23:56) placed seventh while Olivia Bowman (Melrose, 24:03) and Giulanna O’Connell (Stoneham, 24:52) came in ninth and fifteenth, respectively.

The Cougar boys team split their tri meet opener, defeating the Bishop’s by a score of 17-39 and bowing to St. Mary’s 17-38. Senior captain Allen Judd of Burlington was the first Cougar to cross the line in fourth place (18:35). Sophomore Mike Vendetti of Lexington (18:37) was sixth, senior captain Sebastian Bissereth of Somerville (19:34) was tenth, senior captain Nick Canniff of Arlington (20:07) was eleventh, Mike Kumar of Medford (20:30), thirteenth, and sophomore Conor Walsh of Billerica (20:50), fourteenth.Also running well for the boys team were sophomores James Condero of Woburn and Paul Reiss of Stoneham.

The Cougars are home on Tuesday, September 24 at Arlington’s Menotomy Rocks Park against Bishop Fenwick and Matignon.
