Students Receive Shawn Bates Scholarship

2013 Medford High School graduates Jake Porrazzo and Sean Doncaster are this year’s recipients of the Shawn Bates Scholarship.

Porrazzo was named a GBL all-star in hockey and the league MVP in baseball his senior year. He was also selected for the Boys Baseball All-Scholastic teams for both the Boston Globe and Boston Herald.

Doncaster was named a GBL all-star for baseball and was league MVP for basketball his senior year. He was also named to the Herald’s All-Scholastic Boys Basketball team.

Both Porrazzo and Doncaster will attend WPI in the fall.

Bates, pictured above, center, is a 1993 Medford High School graduate who went on to be a star hockey player at Boston University before playing for ten years in the NHL, seven of which was spent with the New York Islanders.
