Sheriff’s Community Work Program Helps Prepare MHS for Science Lab Upgrade

Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian was joined by Medford Mayor Michael J. McGlynn and Superintendent of Schools Roy Belson at Medford High School Monday morning to inspect works being completed by an inmate crew from the Sheriff’s Community Work Program (CWP).

The crew of five is moving boxes and furniture in advance of upcoming renovations slated for the school. Today was the first day of work on the two week project.

“Strong partnerships like this one are good for local communities and those in our custody,” said Sheriff Koutoujian. “Our inmates learn the value of a hard day of work and help carry the financial burden that is hindering so many municipalities.”

All of the inmates who participate in the CWP program are minimum security inmates nearing the end of the sentences and go through a rigorous selection process. All of the inmates who take part in the program have been convicted of non-violent offenses and the crews are under the supervision of trained deputies. The program benefits communities and serves as an educational tool for inmates.
