Medford Residents Attend Sheriff’s Citizens Academy

Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian recently presided over the graduation ceremony for the inaugural Middlesex Sheriff’s Office Citizens Academy.

“It’s important the public understand the vital work the men and women of the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office perform on a daily basis,” said Sheriff Koutoujian. “I established this academy to give the public we serve an opportunity to learn more about who we are, as well as how we serve and protect them.”

Seventeen residents from 10 Middlesex County communities participated in the first academy, attending classes one night a week for eight weeks. Classes focused on areas ranging from correction officer training to women in corrections, and inmate programming to SWAT operations. Attendees also toured the Middlesex House of Correction in Billerica and witnessed a K-9 demonstration.

“I am grateful to those who took the time to come learn more about the role the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office plays in the community,” said Koutoujian. “I am equally grateful to the members of the Office who participated over the eight weeks.”

Academy graduates are residents of Billerica, Framingham, Lincoln, Marlborough, Medford, Newton, Tewksbury, Waltham, Wayland and Wilmington.
