Construction to Begin on High School Science Labs in Summer

Budina and GrossmanConstruction on new science labs for Medford High School and Medford Vocational Technical High School will begin this summer.

On Friday, June 28, the last day of school, State Treasurer Steve Grossman Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) Executive Director John McCarthy visited Medford High School to officially kick off the construction.

The science lab plan includes eight new labs, nine renovated labs, shared universal lab space that can accommodate a variety of science classes, science-related technology, and physical improvements such as new roofing and windows.

Approximately 60% of the funding for the new labs will come from a special federal fund administered by the MSBA. This is a one-time source of funding and Medford was one of a few communities selected to participate.

Construction would begin in the summer of 2013 and should be complete by early 2014.
