Legion Baseball Team Opens Season With Win

Medford’s American Legion Post 45 baseball team won their season opener on Wednesday with a 13-0 shutout at Malden.

Mark Fusco (Arlington Catholic) pitched a complete game, allowing just two hits and striking out twelve.

Every Medford starter recorded at least one hit, according to Coach Ryan Kozul.

Kozul, an assistant varsity baseball coach at Medford High School, has several of his Mustang players on the team, including Kevin Andrew, Dave Center, Jake Porrazzo, Ryan Covelle, Dom Ramasci, Sean Doncaster, Mike Egitto, Chris Hayes, John Lavoie, Mike Pizzi, Justin Alley, and Andrew Cronin. Assistant Mustang coach John McGonagle is also coaching with Kozul.

Medford will host Reading on Friday, weather permitting, and Lowell at 2PM on Saturday. Both games are at Playstead Park.

Ryan Covelle

Covelle contributed a 3 RBI triple and had three runs scored against Malden on Wednesday.

Jake Porrazzo

Porrazzo was named to the All-Scholastic Teams of both the Boston Globe and Boston Herald.

Doncaster

Doncaster is back at short stop for the Legion team.

Kevin Andrew

Andrew was 2-3 with two RBI’s.

Medford scores

Medford had thirteen unanswered runs against Malden.
