The Medford High School girls varsity softball team earned a come-from-behind win over Arlington Sunday.

Senior captain Sam LoPilato lined a walk-off single to center field that drove home Brianna Napoleone from third base to lift the team to an 11-10 victory, according to Head Coach Jack Dempsey.

The Lady Mustangs had a remarkable comeback after trailing 10-6 going into the bottom half of the seventh inning. Freshman Ashley Eisnor hit a rocket over the Spy Ponder right fielder’s head, clearing the bases to bring the local nine to within one run. Senior Christina Sweeney then banged a hard ball up the middle, scoring pinch runner Renee Staude with the tying run. Senior Allyson Mollung started the big eighth inning off with a single to center, followed by hits from LoPilato, Christina Lynch and Michaela Mitrano before the bomb by Eisnor.

Eisnor was the winning pitcher, getting her ninth victory of the season while also contributing a long double along with her clutch triple. LoPilato had three hits, two RBI’s, and one run, Lauren Walsh had three hits, a triple, an RBI, and run scored, Katie Napier added a hit, was walked, and had two runs scored, and Napoleone contributed two runs and two RBI’s.

Sunday’s home win against Arlington followed a close game against a tough Lexington team. The Lady Mustangs lost a thriller to the Middlesex League champion- and 19-2- Minutemen, 4-3. Napier led the hitting attack with a single and double while Sarah Donnelly had a key double. Eisnor pitched a “strong game” over nine innings, said Coach Dempsey.

The local nine continue their six games in seven days tear to close out the regular season with a double header on Memorial Day. Medford is on the road at Arlington for a noon game and then is at Revere for a 4:00PM game.

The Greater Boston League champion Mustangs will find out their state tournament details on Tuesday.
