MHS Baseball Team Earns Big Win Over Everett

– Allison Goldsberry

A home win over Everett on Monday has moved the Medford High School varsity baseball team that much closer to a potential Greater Boston League title.

Medford pulled out a 6-4 come-from-behind victory over the Crimson Tide at Playstead Park on Monday afternoon.

The Mustangs were trailing 3-1 entering the bottom of the sixth. Junior Kevin Andrew opened things up with an RBI single to knock in pinch runner Andrew Cronin. Mike Egitto followed up with an RBI single, scoring Sean Doncaster to tie the game. Ryan Covelle (two runs scored) walked, and then Dom Ramasci stepped to the plate and hit a bases clearing triple down the right field line to knock in three runs and put Medford up 6-3, said assistant coach Ryan Kozul.

John Lavoie got the win on the mound, pitching a complete game and striking out seven.

Medford is 12-3 overall heading into Tuesday’s game at Malden Catholic. The Mustangs are 6-1 in the GBL with their sights set on a big victory at Malden on Thursday, which would guarantee Medford at least a share of the league title depending on Everett’s fortunes against Cambridge and Somerville. Medford has not won a GBL title since 2001.
