Sheriff’s SWAT Team Assisted in Bombing Invesitation

The events of the past week demonstrated the commitment of law enforcement across all levels to identifying and capturing those responsible for Monday’s heinous Boston Marathon attack. I was proud to see first-hand the work members of our own Middlesex Sheriff’s Office SWAT team did throughout the week in conjunction with tactical teams from all parts of eastern Massachusetts and beyond to keep the region safe. These efforts supported the extraordinary work of federal authorities, Boston and State Police to identify the suspects.

While successful, the hunt for suspects came with a heavy price with the death of MIT Police Officer Sean Collier and the wounding of MBTA Transit Police Officer Richard Donohue Thursday night. The thoughts and prayers of the entire Middlesex Sheriff’s Office are with the families, friends and colleagues of Officers Collier and Donohue.
