6th Annual Medford Fit for Life 5K a Huge Success

Fit for Life walkersThe Medford Fit for Life 5k Run and Walk was first started by Kristin Howell, Ann Marie Cugno and I (Breanna Lungo-Koehn) in 2007 as a way to keep people fit and honor one we miss. In 2008 to the present, we were lucky to get the additional help from Allison Goldsberry and Jack Dempsey, which has allowed us to make the event even better.

The event went on without a hitch on October 21, 2012. Almost two hundred people of all ages came out to walk or run a 5k in honor of the late Medford DARE Police Officer, Patrick Fahey. Officer Fahey touched so many lives and it was nice to once again see so many people take part. It was a nice way to remember all that Pat did for the City of Medford and the youth population.

This year we were able to raise over $2000, which will allow us to give 14 scholarships to under privileged children in Medford. The scholarships will be for a week-long entrance fee to Medford’s summer camp at the Columbus School in honor of officer Fahey. Without all of the participants and supporters it could not have been possible.

On behalf of the Medford Fit for Life 5k Committee, we would like to thank all those who made this all possible. Thank you to all of our financial supporters, who include: George’s Bakery which donated over 200 tasty bagels, John Brewers Tavern, CB Scoops, Pizzeria Regina, and Hairs to u.

Medford Police Thank you also to all who volunteered, including, the Medford Police, Mike Nestor from the Medford DPW, the Medford high school students, the Cugno Family, David Koehn, Roger Windt and his staff, Chuck Martin our time keeper, and Andrea Hatziyannis from Stoneyfield Farms.
