AC Girls, Boys Cross Country Win League Title

For the fourth straight season the Arlington Catholic girls cross country team went undefeated on their way to the Central Catholic League Championship by soundly defeating Archbishop Williams 25-34 and St. Marys of Lynn 17-31 on Monday. The Lady Cougars extended their four year undefeated streak to thirty-two wins in a row.

With senior captain Janelle Solivetti (Billerica) sitting out with an injury, the underclassmen stepped up and delivered strong performances, according to Head Coach Jack Dempsey. Sophomore Kathleen McLaughlin (Waltham) finished third, followed by junior Kaitlyn McCauley (Waltham) in fourth, Hannah Kirby (Wilmington) in fifth, Olivia Liberti (Medford) in sixth, Olivia Stewart (Medford) in seventh, senior captain Lauren O’Neil (Stoneham) in ninth, junior Jessica Higgins (Peabody) fourteenth, and freshman Olivia Bowman (Melrose) in eighteenth place.

The AC girls finished the season with a perfect 8 and 0 record.

The Cougar boys were once again led by undefeated senior captain Kevin Connors (Belmont). The Cougars defeated both Archbishop Williams (19-38) and St. Mary’s (26-38) to improve their record to six wins, two losses. Senior Brendon O’Connell (Wilmington) placed third, junior Alan Judd (Burlington) was sixth, senior Bryan Daly (Woburn) seventh, freshman Mike Vendetti (Lexington) thirteenth, senior Nick Canniff (Arlington) fourteenth, and senior captain Matt Woods (Arlington) was nineteenth.

The Cougars will compete in the CCL Championships, the State Coaches Invitational, Eastern Mass Championships and the Massachusetts All State Championship, said Dempsey.
