Students Earn Shawn Bates Scholarships

Three Medford High School graduates have received the annual Shawn Bates Scholarship. Mike Pizzi (left, baseball) is attending Bunker Hill Community College while Brian Enos (center, hockey) and Jonathan Nazzaro (right, hockey) both will head to Merrimack College. The boys will each receive $1,000. Bates, pictured above, far right, is a 1993 Medford High School graduate who went on to be a star hockey player at Boston University before playing for ten years in the NHL, seven of which was spent with the New York Islanders.

“Shawn Bates has never forgoten were his roots are. He has constantly given back to both the athletes at Medford High School and also the community,” said Athletic Director Bob Maloney.
