Legion Baseball Team 2-1; Home Game Monday

The Medford Post 45 American Legion baseball team is 2-1 on the season heading into Monday’s home game against Tyngsboro.

So far Medford has wins over Malden and Reading. Medford lost a close one on Sunday to Chelmsford. John Lavoie (Medford High) pitched a complete game in the 2-1 loss, striking out seven and not giving up any runs, according to Coach Ryan Kozul. Bob Wesoloski (Arlington Catholic) was 1-3 with a run scored, Ryan Covelle (Malden Catholic) had an RBI and Dave Center (MHS) was 2-3.

On Saturday Medford blanked Reading 4-0. Covelle pitched six innings, striking out eight with no bases on balls in his first Legion start and win. MC grad Paul Covelle came in and worked a perfect seventh with two strikeouts to seal the victory. He also had two runs scored.

AC’s Jon Byrne was 3-3 with two RBI’s, Lavoie had an RBI, and Mike Pizzi (MHS) was 1-2.

Medford hosts Tyngsboro at 5:45PM on Monday at Playstead Park.
