2nd Grade Math Tutor Volunteers Recognized

Medford School Volunteers recently recognized community volunteers for their year-long participation in the 2nd Grade Math Tutor program in the Medford Public Schools.

On April 23, volunteers were recognized for their contribution to Medford Public Schools and for their commitment to the student whom they tutored this year.

Over 20 volunteers provided year-long, one-on-one tutoring to 2nd graders in three Medford Elementary Schools and in-class tutoring to small groups. The program, modeled after a similar program in Cambridge, seeks to build both math skills and confidence around math for second graders.

The 2nd Grade Math Tutor program is currently at three elementary schools. With enough volunteers program organizers would like to expand it to all four Medford elementary schools. Volunteer tutors come from the Medford community and include high school students, Tufts students, retirees, and working residents.

The program is a part of Medford School Volunteers. Medford School Volunteers is a community-based group working to connect community resources to Medford Public Schools.
