Mayor Bloomberg Mocked for Attempt to Limit Size of Sugary Drinks in NYC

To combat obesity, New York City Mayor (and Medford native) Michael Bloomberg recently announced his administration would like to prohibit the sale of sugary drinks in containers of more than sixteen ounces in restaurants and food carts. Mayor Bloomberg has been widely criticized for this effort, especially by the soda industry. The Center for Consumer Freedom ran a full page ad, pictured below, in The New York Times depicting Mayor Bloomberg as a “nanny” figure. The organization is backed by restaurants and food companies, according to its website. The Bloomberg administration has been publicly announcing support of the initiative from well-known political figures and health experts.
