Girls Lacrosse Team Qualifies for State Tournament

– Allison Goldsberry

The girls varsity lacrosse team earned another state tournament appearance with a 16-5 home win over Essex Aggie on Sunday.

It was Senior Night, the last home game of the season, and “the girls came ready to play,” said Head Coach Matt Galusi.

Senior Olivia Timmins led all Mustang scorers with six goals and two assists. However, it was a “scoring parade” for the Mustangs, said Coach Galusi, with multiple players netting goals. Katherine Timmins added two goals and an assist, while Jolene McGlynn, Cassidy LeBert, Brianna Burke, Jaime Traverse, Brianna Hughes, Miranda Arena, and Jamie deRosas each added a goal. Traverse and Hughes each also had two assists.

Defensively, everyone “stepped up,” and goalie Rachel Keene “was like a stone wall in there,” said Galusi.

The Mustangs are now 8-6 and close the season at Waltham and Lowell on Tuesday and Wednesday. Coach Galusi is proud of his team for qualifying for the state tournament.

“There will be post season play for the Lady Mustangs this year. I’m so excited for this group of girls,” said Galusi.
