Carroll’s Opens in Medford

It’s a new restaurant opened by a familiar family. After operating a popular diner for over fifty years that closed in 1986, the Carroll family opened up Carroll’s bar and grille restaurant in Medford Square. The restaurant officially opened on May 3 in the location formerly occupied by Il Faro. The restaurant features a large bar, oysters, and menu items with local names, such as the “Jumbo Juice” cocktail named for Tufts University’s mascot. The photos below were taken by Larry Cultrera, a local writer who has followed the history of Carroll’s and other diners.

Carroll's bar

Cultrera, who operates the Diner Hotline blog, was allowed to snap pictures before the restaurant officially opened, including of the large bar inside Carroll’s.

Carroll's C

This letter “C,” mounted on a chimney inside the new restaurant, was salvaged from the old Carroll’s diner by local residents and eventually was sold back to the Carroll family. Cultrera also has his own.
