Medford Native to Mark 25 Years with Boston Marathon

DMSE Sports, founded by Medford native Dave McGillivray, is off and running in 2012 with a schedule of 30 road races and charity walks that began last weekend with the Spring Training Classic in Jupiter, Fla., and doesn’t end until the popular Feaster Five in Andover, Mass., on Thanksgiving Day.

In between, the North Andover-based national sports event management firm will direct some of the country’s most iconic road races, including the B.A.A. Boston Marathon for the 25th time (13 as Technical Director, last 12 as Race Director), the 15th TD Beach to Beacon in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, the famed Bellin Run in Green Bay, Wis., and, for the first time ever, the historic New Balance Falmouth Road Race on Cape Cod in August.

DMSE also recently launched a new website at www.dmsesports.com with a comprehensive calendar of events, a newsroom, and other background and information about the company founded by McGillivray in 1981 in a storefront in his native Medford.

“We’re truly excited about 2012 as our roster of races is growing in size and prestige, and the decision to overhaul our website is a reflection of that growth,” said McGillivray, DMSE president. The new website was created by Forte Interactive (www.forteinteractive.com), a web design company that DMSE has enlisted for other race websites, he added.

Now in its 31st year, DMSE, Inc. – Dave McGillivray Sports Enterprises, also known as DMSE Sports – is a leader in sports event management, specializing in creating, marketing and producing mass participatory athletic events throughout the U.S. and abroad. Regarded for technical expertise and attention to every detail, DMSE races are known for being safe, organized and technically advanced. In 2000, McGillivray and his team received the prestigious Race Director of the Year award from Road Race Management.

Other highlights on DMSE’s 2012 schedule include the Run for the Dream in Williamsburg, Va.; the Lady Speed Stick® Women’s Half Marathon series throughout the U.S., the grueling Mount Washington Road Race in Gorham, N.H., and the Run – Walk to Home Base 9K at Fenway Park in Boston. DMSE also has been tapped to direct the USA Masters 8K Championships.

DMSE also has in recent years has started and manages several of its own races. In addition to the Spring Training Classic in Jupiter, Fla., which ends at home plate inside the stadium where the Marlins and Cardinals train, DMSE also launched the beautiful Run Gloucester! 7 Mile in Gloucester, Mass. and the Harvard Pilgrim Finish at the 50 5K & 10K, where runners cross the finish line in Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.

DMSE is a pioneer in what is now one of the most important aspects of the athletic industry – combining athletics with philanthropy. Nearly every DMSE-led or DMSE-owned event combines fitness and fundraising, giving back to the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Children’s Hospital, Lazarus House and many others charities and non-profit organizations in New England and across the country.
