Police, Health Dept. Team up to Prevent Alcohol Abuse

The Medford Health Department and Medford Police Department, in partnership with the Medford Liquor License Commission, conduct compliance checks in Medford twice a year. Our goal is to ensure that licensees are checking identification and following Massachusetts general laws on alcohol beverage service.

Medford Health Department and Medford Police Department encourages all servers and sellers of alcohol to be trained in TIPS or an equivalent alcohol beverage service training program. TIPS (Training for Intervention ProcedureS) is a dynamic, skills-based training program designed to prevent intoxication, drunk driving and underage drinking by enhancing the fundamental “people skills” of servers, sellers and consumers of alcohol. TIPS gives individuals the knowledge and confidence they need to recognize potential alcohol-related problems and intervene to prevent alcohol-related tragedies.

To ensure that all servers and sellers are well equipped to follow Massachusetts general laws on alcohol beverage service Medford Health Department offers TIPS training for a $30 fee. Upon completion of training staff will be certified for 3 years.
