The Arlington Catholic girls hockey team upset St. Mary’s of Lynn to earn the Division 1 State Championship title on Sunday morning at the TD Garden.

The Cougars defeated St. Mary’s 3-1, with the lone goal for St. Mary’s coming from Medford’s Brittani Lanzilli, according to Boston.com.

The last time the Cougars won the state title was in 2007. The team, 16-3-1 and seeded fourth out of twenty-seven teams heading into the state tournament, knocked off Barnstable, Woburn, and Braintree before facing St. Mary’s in the final game.

“The other times we [played St. Mary’s] there was that stigma that we’ve never beaten them,’” AC coach Maggie Taverna told Boston.com. “…they came out and we just played our game.”
