‘Junior Mustangs’ Come to Medford

On Wednesday community members had a chance to hear about a new youth football and cheering league in Medford. Medford Youth Football and Cheer is open to kids in grade one through grade eight regardless of weight, according to league president Gene Kenney. Kenney said no child would be turned away due to being “too heavy” and he hoped league players and cheerleaders, nicknamed “Junior Mustangs,” would grow up to become Mustangs. The new league is not affiliated with Pop Warner and is part of the Northeast Conference Youth Football League (NECYFL), which includes teams from Beverly, Salem, Swampscott, Charlestown, Chelsea, Stoneham, Lynn, and Peabody. Registration and other information is available on medfordyouthfootball.com.
