SWAT Team in Medford Wednesday

Residents in a North Medford neighborhood were startled to see a SWAT team outside early Wednesday morning.

According to the Medford Police log published on Medford Patch, it appears the SWAT unit was there to execute a search warrant. Joseph Chase, a Watervale Road resident, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm without a firearm identification card and improper storage of a firearm.

According to a spokeswoman for the Middlesex District Attorney’s office, Chase was arraigned on Wednesday and was charged with three counts of carrying a firearm without a license, two counts of carrying a large capacity firearm, three counts of improper storage of a firearm, and carrying a firearm without a FID card.

Chase pled not guilty and was released on $10,000 cash bail. He will be in court on March 28 for a pre-trial conference.

SWAT (special weapons and tactics) teams are generally used in high risk situations by law enforcement.
