Farmers Market Moves Back to Square; Fundraiser March 31

The Medford Farmers Market will open its sixth season in Medford Square on Thursday, June 7.

The Farmers Market opened in Medford Square and spent three years there before setting up shop in the Whole Foods parking lot for the past two years.

According to an email newsletter from market organizers, the decision to move was based upon public feedback.

“The decision to move the Market was based on our January 2012 survey, where overwhelmingly our customers indicated the desire for the market to be closer to public transit and nearer to green space…While we’re sad to be moving away from Whole Foods Market, whose partnership has been tremendous since the inception of the market, we believe the new location will open up the Medford Farmers Market, and its bounty of locally grown goods, to even more Medford residents,” said the newsletter.

Last season the market saw increased foot traffic and featured eighteen vendors every week that offered a variety of items such as fresh produce, cheese, meat, eggs, wine, nuts, and baked goods.

The market will take place every Thursday from 3-7PM beginning June 7 and running through early October.

The market’s second annual fundraiser, Music for the Market, is taking place on Saturday, March 31 from 7-10PM at Medford City Hall. The popular event includes live music from local musicians and food and drinks from local businesses. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. They can be purchased online or at Mystic Coffee Roasters on Riverside Avenue in Medford Square and CB Scoops in West Medford Square.
