Hockey Team Heads to State Tourney Quarter Finals

The boys varsity hockey team opened up the first round of the state tournament with a win over GBL rival Everett on Wednesday night.

The Mustangs blanked the Crimson Tide 3-0.

Medford, now 9-12, is seeded last out of fourteen teams in North Division 1 while Everett, 13-5-2, was the third seed.

Following the loss of Arlington Catholic (#11, 10-7-4) to Chelmsford (#6, 12-6-2) on Thursday, Medford will now face Chelmsford on March 3 in the quarter finals. The game is taking place at 6:15pm (previously 8:15PM) at Chelmsford Forum on Saturday.

Westford (#2, 13-4-4) and Wakefield (#7, 9-5-6) also play on Saturday in the quarter finals. The winners from each game will advance to the semi final round on March 7.

In other hockey news, Malden Catholic (#1, 15-1-4) kicks off its Super Eight competition on March 4 against St. John’s of Shrewsbury (#8, 15-4-3). They will also face BC High and Hingham. All games are at Merrimack College.
