US Representative Edward Markey will be in Medford Wednesday to discuss both short and long-term solutions to address rising gas prices.

According to an advisory from Rep. Markey’s office, the Congressman will outline a strategy to deploy the nation’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve, will push for an end to 100-year old tax breaks for oil companies, and will present a strategy that moves America toward clean energy solutions and away from foreign oil.

Last April gas was averaging $3.88 per gallon and after decreasing it has crept back up to an average of $3.57 per gallon, according to information from Rep. Markey’s office. The Congressman says “escalating gas prices are threatening recent gains in America’s economic recovery,” and “everyday Americans continue to experience pain at the pump well before the summer driving season begins.”

Rep. Markey, a ranking member of the Natural Resources Committee and senior member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, will visit Medford Gas, located at 85 Main Street at the corner of Main and South Streets at 2PM on Wednesday. Markey held a press conference at the same gas station last April and announced similar ideas.
