St. Clement’s Sports Report

Girls Basketball:

The St. Clement Girls Basketball Team captured their sixth win, beating Maimonides 40-36. Freshman Jessica Popken (Medford) led the way with fourteen points and Sidney Cezil (Everett) supported the effort with seven points. In the fourth quarter, Maimonides climbed back to cut the lead to just one before some big free throws by Allison Caloggero (Medford), who had eight points. Katie Monestime (Somerville) and senior Elva Martinez (Somerville) were huge on the defensive end, coming up with numerous steals and rebounds.

On Friday St. Clement faced league rival Pope John in a defensive battle. After trailing by just one at the half, St. Clement struggled to score in the second half, losing 18-31. St. Clement was led offensively by Popken and eighth grader Katie Monestime with seven points apiece. Martinez continued her rebounding domination, amassing twelve boards on the night. The Lady Anchors will face Maimondes Academy, Cristo Rey and Lowell Catholic this week. The loss brings the Lady Anchors’ overall record to 6-9.

Boys Basketball:

The St. Clement Anchormen came up big defensively and offensively against Sutton High School, earning an impressive 46-37 win. The win brings the Anchormens’ overall record to 7-8. Kevin Foley (Medford) again led the way with another double-double with twenty points, fourteen rebounds and seven assists. The Anchormen will face the Lowell Catholic Crusaders at Lowell Catholic on Friday, February 10th.
