Springstep Hosts Creative Kids Vacation Arts Program

CreativeKidsLogoKeep your kids moving and having fun during February school vacation!

Don’t let your kids catch the boredom bug this February vacation. Get them moving and having fun with Springstep’s first-ever Creative Kids Vacation Arts Program. This half-day, week-long multidisciplinary arts program will ignite the imaginations of children ages five to seven through storytelling and movement in Wag Your Tale, and excite kids ages eight to ten who are interested in theater in Center Stage.

In Wag Your Tale, children will be introduced to a new book each day to inspire creative movement activities, crafts, and games. By working closely with peers in imaginative activities, students will fine-tune their cooperation, listening, and communication skills while exercising their creativity. Instructor Dana Moskowitz has a degree in Interdisciplinary Arts for Children with a minor in dance, and is pursuing her Masters in Education in Community Arts from Lesley University. She currently teaches Creative Movement at Springstep on Saturdays.

Center Stage will involve eight- to ten-year-olds in all aspects of creating a short, informal theatrical production. Students will develop acting skills through improvisational games that focus on confidence, character development, and creativity. Children will also try their hand at set design and prop creation and the week will end with an informal performance. Instructor Matt Lundeen has a degree in Theater Performance, is currently pursuing his Masters of Education, and is a director and board member at the Arlington’s Children Theater.

Springstep decided to launch its Creative Kids program in response to cuts in arts programming in local schools. “Creative Kids is totally different from a typical school program – it’s about fun, movement, and experimentation. As a half-day program kids still have time to get a break from the typical school schedule,” says Allie Fiske Program Manager and camp creator. “Springstep has wanted to offer a vacation arts program for kids for years. Thanks to the growing interest in our youth programs and two wonderful and experienced instructors, this camp became a reality.”

Creative Kids will kick off the week of February 20th from 9:00am-12:00pm, Monday-Friday. The cost is $210 for non-members and $189 for members. Sibling discounts are also available. The registration deadline is Sunday, February 12th. To register or for more information, visit www.springstep.org.
