The girls indoor track team earned a decisive 58-28 home victory over arch rival Malden on Friday afternoon. The Lady Mustangs were once again led by junior Lauren Walsh, who won the 1000 meter run (3:31), high jump (4’4”), and anchored the winning 4 x 400 meter relay team.

The meet started off with a big victory for Medford with senior captain Amanda Goguen winning the two mile run with a time of 14:30. Sophomore Francesca Spirito followed Goguen by winning the 55 meter hurdles, nipping the Malden hurdler at the tape. Junior Michala Mitrano was third, earning her team another point. The freshmen duo of Korey O’Rourke-Crowley and Kly Goncalves finished first and second in the 55 meter dash, making up for the loss of senior captain Ariana Fiorello due to an injury.

The Lady Mustangs dominated the 300 meter run by sweeping the first three places, with freshman Bailey Flynn in first, followed by Olivia Allison and junior Izzy Kingsbury. Junior Nicole Avella ran to a strong third place finish in the 600 meter run while freshman Ariana Buelto finished second in the one mile run.

Medford also dominated the field events with strong performances, sweeping the first three places in both the shot put and high jump. Juniors Christina Lynch (29’6″), Jackie Luongo (28″1′), and Maria Loutaris (24″10′) came up big for the throwers while Walsh (4″4′), Spirito (4″3′), and freshman Tricia Healion (4″2′) did a fine job leaping over the high jump bar, said Head Coach Jack Dempsey.

The Medford foursome of Bailey Flynn, Healion, Allison and Walsh were victorious in the 4 x 400 meter relay.

The Lady Mustangs, now 2-2, will be competing in the Greater Boston League Championship next Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Track Center in Boston.
