Girls Track Shows Potential in 1st Meet

Despite losing to Cambridge 53-33 in their first track meet of the season on Wednesday, the girls indoor track team had some “outstanding performances” and showed some great potential, according to Coach Jack Dempsey.

Freshman Korey O’Rourke-Crowley was the only Mustang individual winner, placing first in the 50 meter dash. She was followed by senior captain Ariana Fiorello in second place and freshman Kly Goncalves third place. In the 300 meter dash freshman Olivia Allison placed second and junior Katherine Timmins was third. In the 600 meter run juniord Nicole Avella and Izzy Kingsbury placed second and third, respectively. Senior captain Jamie DeRosas was third in the 1000 meter race and freshman Akayla Harrison wasn’t far behind. Two Mustang runners scored in the one mile race, with junior Lauren Walsh finishing second and senior captain Amanda Goguen in third.

In the two mile run freshman Ariana Buelo finished second while junior Kaleigh Smith was fourth. Junior trio Maria Loutraris, Kristina Lynch and Jackie Luongo took second, third, and fourth place in the shot put. In the high jump Fiorello was second, followed by sophomore Franchesca Spirito in third place.

Finally, in one the most exciting races of the day, the Medford A and B 4×400 meter relay teams were edged out at the finish line by the swift Falcon runners, said Coach Dempsey.

The next meet for the Lady Mustangs is Thursday, December 22 at home vs Arlington.
