$700K in Aid to go to Police Cruisers, Other City Needs

Mayor Seeks Council Approval for Local Expenditures

Over $700,000 is additional state aid to Medford is being considered for a variety of city needs.

On Tuesday, December 6 the City Council will consider a request from Mayor Michael McGlynn to spend $741,818 on four new police cruisers, traffic safety improvements, and sidewalk repairs, among other items.

Medford is receiving the additional local aid because of action taken on the supplemental budget in the end of October. Governor Deval Patrick approved the supplemental budget in early November, which distributed $65 million to cities and towns across the state, according to information from Medford’s state delegation.

Mayor McGlynn is requesting the Council approve the following allocation of the funding:

$195,000 Brownfields Projects within City of Medford

$167,000 Four Police Cruisers/1 Explorer-loaded and stenciled

$40,000 Traffic Safety Improvements/Consultant-George & Winthrop St.

$15,000 Chevalier Repairs-Handicap rail, fire alarm and other

$6,000 Millfoil Application-Wrights Pond

$61,000 Sidewalk Repairs

$27,720 Tree Planting 10,000 MHS Building A–Hot Water Repair

$30,000 South Medford Fire Station Heater-emergency

$10,000 Traffic Calming

$13,000 Board of Health-Elderly Van-20% match to grant

$20,000 Personnel-Auditor’s Office (extended sick leave-9 months)

$90,000 Personnel-DPW-(6 months/4 positions)
