Walk/Ride Days Good for Businesses, Students

Event Held Last Friday of Every Month

Walk/Ride Days is a program that encourages residents to get around by walking and biking, while at the same time helping local businesses find and retain more customers who are interested in a safer, cleaner, more vibrant community.

The signature event of this program is Walk/Ride Day, which repeats on the last Friday of every month. On Walk/Ride Day, people are encouraged to use their feet, bicycle, bus, train, or other non-car transportation.

Green Medford, our city’s grassroots group devoted to a more sustainable community, will be dedicated to increasing participation in Walk/Ride Days through next spring.

Green Medford is seeking businesses and schools to join the project. To participate, a business chooses an incentive that will help drive more customers to the business, without driving. Then, on the last Friday of each month, the businesses reward the people who visited because of the program.

Schools in the Walk/Ride project can participate in many ways, from Walking School Bus events to a Special Walk/Ride day for the whole community.

Green Medford and Green Streets Initiative are providing support in the way of a lively outreach program, which can include membership cards for participating organizations, posters, banners, press releases, interviews, videos, public events, and social networking updates.

Green Medford seeks to educate the Medford community to understand our environmental impact, and to empower members of our community to make more sustainable energy choices related to homes and businesses, transportation, and food. More information at: www.greenmedford.org.

Walk/Ride Days is a project of the Green Streets Initiative, an international grassroots organization based in Cambridge, MA, that celebrates and promotes the use of sustainable and active transportation. Green Streets’ mission is to create safer, healthier, and quieter streets and more vibrant communities. More information at: http://www.gogreenstreets.org/.
