Mustang Cheerleaders Wrap up Fall Season

MHS cheerleadersThe Medford Mustang Cheerleaders entered the fall north regional at Woburn High School Sunday with high hopes to move onto the fall state final. However, it just didn’t work out that way.

“We started out strong, but we had a fall in our first pyramid and we just never seemed to really recover from it. It seemed to shake the girls and additional mistakes were made … mistakes teams in Division I just can’t afford to make. Unfortunately, we had a bad day,” said Head Coach Michelle Kimball.

Although, Medford did not move onto the Fall State Cheering Final, they accomplished a lot this season.

“They definitely got their competitive spirit back and won the GBL title which Medford hasn’t been able to do in the past 3 years. We wore our ‘Mustang Pride’ on our sleeves. We have a young team and we are already preparing to get the team back onto the mat for the winter season,” said Kimball.

Greater Lowell Vocational School placed first with a high score of 181.50, Billerica was second and Everett placed third. All moved onto the State Final at Shrewsbury High School next Sunday.

The Mustang Cheerleaders will perform their competition routine at the Thanksgiving Pep Rally and will cheer at the Thanksgiving Football Game. It will be the last football game for seniors Daniella Colozzo and Janny Jathnie.

Tryouts for the winter cheering team will be held at Medford High School on Tuesday, November 29th at 5:30 PM. Those interested in trying out need to be passing four major subjects and have a completed athlete medical on file in the nurses’ office. No experience is necessary. Tumbling is not required, but those interested in trying out must be willing to learn. All those interested should come to the tryout in workout clothes and sneakers.
