Story Updated 2:16PM Friday, November 11, 2011

The boys varsity soccer team ended their state tourney bid in a frustrating 1-0 double over-time loss to Masconomet on Friday afternoon. Masco won on a penalty kick in the second ten minute OT period following a game that was scoreless at the end of regulation.

Head Coach Mike Petrides and the boys varsity soccer team earned a 2-1 upset victory over Lincoln-Sudbury on Wednesday. The Mustangs now advance to the semi-final round of the North Division 1 state tournament.

Medford defeated #2 seed Lincoln-Sudbury in overtime. Both of Medford’s goals were scored by senior captain John Dumbuya. Dumbuya’s first goal came in the first half while the second, game-winning goal came near the end of the 10-minute OT period.

Both teams played strong defense the entire game. Medford goalie Bryan Peguero shut down the Warriors’ few scoring attempts. Their only goal came as the result of a penalty kick against Medford, which forced the game into overtime.

Medford will play in the semi-final round on Friday, November 11 at 10:00am against Masconomet Regional High School at Manning Field in Lynn (a neutral site). The winner will advance to the finals against either Billerica or Chelsea.
