Maiocco Announces City Council Campaign

Assuring voters that the protection of the city’s residential neighborhoods remains a key priority with him, Medford City Councillor Robert A. Maiocco has announced his candidacy for re-election in the November 8 election. Maiocco is president of the Council, the unanimous choice of his Council colleagues.

“No issue is more important to me than the protection of neighborhoods,” Maiocco declared. “Every resident has a right to live peacefully in a desirable and safe environment.” Maiocco said he has been successful in stopping undesirable intrusions into neighborhoods and will continue his efforts in the future. Maiocco pointed to a new city ordinance adopted this year, which he strongly supported, that grants the city more power in taking legal action against those intruding into and disrupting residential neighborhoods.

Maiocco said he would continue to utilize his professional financial experience to assure that the city taxpayers get a full dollar’s value for every tax dollar spent. “I have been cognizant of the heavy fiscal burden that is imposed on taxpayers and rentpayers during these difficult financial times and my Council votes reflect those concerns,” Maiocco declared.

Maiocco has also been in the forefront of efforts to curb increasing water and sewer rates. “I was among those who organized opposition on a district-wide basis to combat the MWRA’s rate-setting methods,” Maiocco reported.

“The manner in which we care for our senior citizens and handicapped residents is important to me. How we treat them is a reflection on the quality and the character of our city,” Maiocco continued.

In his announcement of candidacy for re-election, Councillor Maiocco stated: “I am concerned about attracting new desirable businesses into Medford to help ease the burden on residential taxpayers and bring in new jobs. The Station Landing and River’s Edge development are examples of solid success in that area. Adequate parking for those who shop in our stores and utilize local businesses is a necessity that must be met.

“Quality education is another important matter to me and I will continue to be anxious to cooperate with and assist school authorities in providing for the finest school system possible. Medford’s children merit nothing less and we have a responsibility to meet their educational needs.

“Public safety is another important matter to me as is the need to have a livable city and one that is clean and attractive. The condition of our parks, playgrounds and swimming facilities must be a constant concern. Good streets and sidewalks are paramount to the basic safety of our citizens.”

In concluding his statement, Maiocco said, “I am never hesitant to speak out on issues and to keep the people of Medford fully informed on what is going on in our city government. Having been honored by my colleagues to be president of the Council, I have sought always to preside in a fair and impartial manner and assure that the Medford City Council be the people’s forum. Every person has been given the opportunity to be heard,” he continued.

“I am respectfully asking the voters to re-elect me because I want to pursue my efforts on behalf of our city and to continue serving as the people’s City Councillor.” he concluded.

A resident of 39 Norwich Circle, Maiocco is first vice president-investments for Wells Fargo Advisors, Boston. Prior to serving on the City Council, he was chairperson and a member of the Board of Park Commissioners and a member of the Medford Council on Aging. Councillor Maiocco is a graduate of St. Joseph School, Medford High School and Boston University where he earned a degree in business administration with a major in finance. A native of Medford, he is married to the former Cheryl Floyd, a special education evaluation team leader at the Brooks School. They are the parents of a daughter, Alexandria Maron Maiocco, a graduate of Tufts University, and a son, Robert Jr., a Merrimack College graduate.
