Final Public Meeting for Rt 16 Green Line Station Nov. 2

Due to a scheduling conflict, the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) has had to reschedule the date of the final public meeting for the Mystic Valley Parkway Green Line Extension process. The meeting will now be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 from 6:30-9:00PM in the Council Chambers at Medford City Hall. The focus of this final meeting will be a presentation of draft recommendations MAPC has developed regarding land use, zoning, economic development, and transportation for the area around a potential Green Line Station at Mystic Valley Parkway. For more information visit the MAPC website.

Medford Officials Express Concern Over Project Delay

After being pushed back one year from 2014 to 2015, the state is now saying the Green Line Extension to Medford and Somerville won’t be completed until between September 2018 and July 2020.

MassDOT and the MBTA announced the delay recently in the annual Status Report on the Green Line Extension and other Big Dig transit project commitments that must be filed with the state Department of Environmental Protection.

The report says that applying for federal funding has contributed to the delay in the project’s completion.

State Senator Patricia Jehlen (D-Somerville, Medford) and State Representatives Sean Garballey (D-Arlington, Medford) and Carl Sciortino (D-Medford, Somerville), along with some of their colleagues, have submitted written comments to the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the Metropolitan Planning Organization expressing concern about the delay of the Green Line extension project.
