AC Girls Cross Country 1 Win Away from League Title

The Arlington Catholic girls cross country team is one win away from completing their 3rd consecutive undefeated season in the Central Catholic League. The Lady Cougars easily beat the girls from Arch Bishop Williams on Monday by a score of 20 to 41 at their home course in Arlington to improve their season record to 7 wins and 0 losses.

Kaitlin McCauley, a sophomore from Watertown, was the first Cougar to cross the finish line in second place. She was followed by junior captain Janelle Solviletti of Billerica in third, junior Lauren O’Neill of Stoneham in fourth, senior captain Brigid Kirkpatrick of Medford in fifth, freshman Kathleen McLaughlin of Waltham in sixh, sophomore Olivia Liberti of Medford in seventh, and senior captain Mary Stanton of Waltham in eighth place.

AC Boys Struggle with Injuries

The injury-plagued boys team bowed to the AW team by a score of 21-34, dropping their record to 4-3. Senior captain Chris Laffey of Billerica placed third for the Cougars, followed by junior Matt Woods of Arlington in fourth, freshman Andrew Ahearn of Burlington in eighth, senior Joe Buccheri of Medford in ninth, sophomore Sebastian Bissreth of Boston in tenth, senior Nick Nowell of Burlington in eleventh, and freshman Arthur Maressa of Woburn rounding out the Cougar’s top seven finishers.

Over the weekend the Lady Cougars placed sixth in a field of over thirty teams at the Division 2 State Coaches meet in Wrentham. Over 200 runners competed in the invitational race. McCauley placed twelfth while Solviletti was right behind her in thirteenth place.

Meanwhile, on Sunday Kirkpatrick (pictured at right) was the top female finisher in the Medford Fit for Life 5K Road race with a time of 22:15.

The Cougars’ next race will be a non-league encounter with Medford High School at Menotomy Rocks Park on Tuesday, October 11.
