Medford to Mark 10th Anniversary of September 11

On Sunday, September 11 the City of Medford will hold a special ceremony to honor the memory of those lost on September 11.

The event is taking place at 9:30AM at Morrison Park, located on Central Avenue.

Immediately following the ceremony, all are invited to walk down to the Immaculate Conception Church for a special “Blue Mass” at 11:00AM, which is being hosted by the Knights of Columbus #13966 in honor of Medford and Malden’s first responders.

All are welcome to attend this event. A special invitation is extended to all public safety personnel (police, fire, EMS) and their families and veterans and their families, especially OIF/OEF veterans. Please feel free to wear your uniforms!

City officials stress the event at Morrison Park is intended to bring the community together to honor the memory of those lost on September 11 and it’s open to everyone.

Later in the day, other events honoring the tenth anniversary of September 11 are going on locally. The Malden Irish American Club, along with the Irish Immigrant Center, is hosting “A Community of Reflection” from 2-5PM at the Irish American Club, 177 West Street, Malden. Tufts University is hosting a free musical performance, “Ten Years Later: Musical Responses to 9/11” at 3PM at the Distler Performance Hall, 20 Talbot Avenue, in Somerville on the Tufts campus.
