School Committee Meeting Monday, July 25

The Medford School Committee will meet on Monday, July 25 at 7:00PM at Medford City Hall.

Two main items are up for discussion. Mayor Michael McGlynn recently announced a contract has been drawn up for bids on installing solar panels on the roofs of Medford’s schools. The School Committee will discuss School Superintendent Roy Belson’s recommendation to move the project forward. According to Mayor McGlynn, the city is looking for a company to install solar panels at no cost. The electricity generated by the solar panels can then be sold to the city at a reduced cost.

Also on the agenda is a discussion of the policy for hiring and retaining athletic coaches. Last week many parents and students were upset to discover popular boys varsity soccer coach Mike Petrides has been told by the administration he will not be coaching in the fall. According to published reports, Medford High School headmaster Dr. Paul Krueger has said the decision is final despite the disappointment of players and parents.

Monday’s School Committee meeting will be broadcast live on Channel 16 in Medford.
