According to Farmers Market Board President Susan Fairchild, the Medford Farmers Market has received a grant from the state Department of Agriculture and the Department of Transitional Assistance to help make healthy, local foods from farmers markets more accessible to SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program) recipients, including WIC and elderly customers receiving assistance.

Starting on July 21, 2011, the Medford Farmers Market will have a wireless terminal set up to accept the EBT/SNAP benefits.

“In addition to the SNAP benefits debited at the market, we will be giving $5 Medford Farmers Market bucks each week to supplement the purchasing power of SNAP recipients,” said Fairchild in an email.

The Medford Farmers Market takes place every Thursday from 3-7PM in the Whole Foods parking lot on Route 16.
