School Garden Established at Medford High

School garden launchStudents and faculty at Medford High School/Medford Voc-Tech have established a school garden. Creating the garden was a real community effort, with vocational students in the carpentry program creating beds for the garden and teachers and students coming together to plant under a blazing hot sun this week. MHS teachers Audrey Carmosino, Nick Tucci, Lisa Beaulieu, and Nick Kain assisted students in the planting of tomatoes, cucumbers, mint, basil, peppers, squash, and pumpkins, among other things.

Juile Bradley of Food Services helped lead the effort to create the garden and said she is looking forward to a dinner sometime in the fall created with the locally grown food.

The high school joins the Columbus Elementary School in having a school garden. The hope is for the garden to be even bigger and better next year, and organizers are seeking donations or contributions of supplies. Anyone interested in helping can contact Juile Bradley at jbradley@medford.k12.ma.us.
