Hallmark Health Recognized for Sustainability Efforts

Hallmark Health receives prestigious VHA Leadership Award for Sustainability Excellence

Hallmark Health System, which includes Lawrence Memorial Hospital of Medford and Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, recently received a 2011 Leadership Award for Sustainability Excellence from VHA Inc. The local healthcare organization was one of only 13 healthcare organizations nationwide to receive the award, which honors organizations that have distinguished themselves around national performance standards by achieving exceptionally high level of performance.

The award recognizes Hallmark Health’s comprehensive programs and investments to reduce waste and decrease energy consumption. Hallmark Health has devoted significant resources in improvements and programs in the areas. They include numerous energy reduction initiatives throughout the system, infrastructure improvements, more efficient waste disposal, new linen and recycling programs and ongoing staff education to create a “greener” healthcare system.

“We are honored to have been selected for this recognition by this national organization,” said Michael V. Sack, president and chief executive officer of Hallmark Health. “We think of ourselves as leaders, but it’s more meaningful when your colleagues look at you the same way.”

VHA Inc. is a national network of not-for-profit healthcare organizations that work together to drive maximum savings, set new levels of clinical performance and best practices to improve operational efficiency and clinical outcomes. The award will be presented at a national conference in San Diego this month.
