Mystic River/Medford Farmers Market Cleanup Saturday, June 11

In preparation for the opening of the Medford Farmers’ Market on June 16, Friends of the Mystic River is holding a mini-cleanup in the market area on Saturday, June 11, from 9 to 11 a.m.

The cleanup will focus primarily on the grassy area bordering the Mystic River along Auburn Street, opposite the Whole Foods parking lot, site of the market; the green space opposite the U-Haul bordered by Route 16, Boston Avenue and the Mystic River; and the sidewalk areas in between.

Volunteers should check in at the grassy area on Auburn Street across from the Whole Foods lot, where the Friends will provide bags, gloves and water.

Given the close proximity of the cleanup area to busy Route 16, any children under age 18 should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Volunteers are also advised to wear bright clothing to be more visible to motorists.

Friends of the Mystic River (www.fomr.org) is a Medford-based community organization focused on the enjoyment, protection and enhancement of the Mystic River in Medford.

The Medford Farmers’ Market (www.medfordfarmersmarket.org) will operate in the Whole Foods parking lot from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays from June 16 through October 13.
