School Committee to Recognize Volunteer Math Tutors

Thirteen Medford residents who have volunteered as second grade math tutors during the school year will be recognized by the Medford School Committee at its meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 6.

The two-year-old Medford Schools Volunteer group program, which was started by Medford resident Charlotte Swartz with four tutors at the Brooks School in 2009, expanded to the Columbus School this school year.

“Next school year we plan to include the Roberts School and hope to further increase the number of tutors, and thus the number of students served,” Swartz said.

In addition to people from the community at large, students from Medford High School and Tufts University participated as tutors this year.

The following tutors will be recognized at Monday night’s meeting, which will be held at the Alden Chambers at Medford City Hall.

Brooks School: Fred Aluia, Cambia Davis, Rita Bamford, Ariana Roche (Medford High), Margaret Nazarus (Tufts) and Victoria Powell (Tufts).

Columbus School: Bruce Kulik, Nancy Carbone, Jackie Fitch, Divya Sharna (Medford High), Cassandra Madeiros (Medford High), Katie Selcraig (Tufts) and Patrick Donnelly (Tufts)

Tutors, students, parents/guardians, and the site coordinators and principles for Brooks and Columbus, schools are being invited to attend.
