Local dancers and business partners Eileen Herman-Haase of Medford and Raul Nieves of Arlington have been awarded seven Local Cultural Council grants to perform Dancing Through the Decades with Dance Caliente at Senior Centers in Brookline, Cambridge, Malden, Medford, Lynn, Salem and Swampscott. The heartwarming response from several Assisted Living facilities, the enthusiastic interest of numerous Senior Centers, and the potential physical and emotional benefits to seniors, provided the motivation to seek financial support for this interactive program from local Cultural Councils. This exciting performance is coming to the Medford Senior Center on Tuesday, May 24 from 1:00-2:00 pm.

Dancing Through the Decades with Dance Caliente celebrates timeless dances from the 1800s through the present. Audience members feel the passion, experience the energy, and remember the joy of partner dancing when they see Eileen and Raul perform Waltz, Peabody, Charleston, Swing, Argentine Tango and Salsa! Eileen and Raul artfully fill the show with humor, nostalgia, stories, and audience participation.

Brookline’s Senior Center described Dance Caliente’s recent show as passionate and inspiring. “I had a great time,” says Giti Ganjie Saeidian, a member of Brookline’s Cultural Council, “and I could see everyone at the center was enjoying themselves. I think what brought it all together besides the beautiful dance was Eileen’s smile and Raul’s humor. I loved it.”

Dance Caliente’s mission is to impart a love and understanding of social dance in creative and accessible ways. To achieve their mission, Eileen and Raul teach group and private lessons in Arlington and Medford and offer creative, interactive performances for all ages. The impetus to create Dancing Through the Decades with Dance Caliente came about as a result of personal experience with aging parents and the desire to bring joy to elders through dance and music.
