Baseball Team Clinches State Tourney Spot

The boys varsity baseball team notched their tenth win of the season with a 14-3 victory over Somerville on Thursday, guaranteeing them some post-season action in the state tournament.

Senior captain Andrew Ferrazzani got the win on the mound. In four innings he struck out five and gave up one earned run and three hits. Senior captain Danny Gilchrist, Chris Hayes, and John Lavoie each pitched an inning of relief, fanning seven more Somerville Highlanders.

Senior captain Chris Salvati was 3-4 with a homerun, three RBI’s, and three runs scored. Pat Duffy was 2-4 with two doubles, three RBI’s, and two runs scored. Seniors Nick Murphy and Gilchrist were 2-4, with Murphy adding a triple, RBI, and run scored and Gilchrist contributing a run.

The Mustangs are 10-2 heading into Tuesday’s game at Cambridge. Medford is at home against Everett on Thursday, May 19 at 4:00PM.
