On Thursday, May 26, fifty of McGlynn Middle School’s most accomplished artists will display their work at Springstep in Medford Square. The students have been working diligently in art classes with Ms. Debbie Corleto and Ms. Suzanne Fee to produce an array of work, including drawings, pottery, watercolors, and sculptures. The gallery exhibit will also serve as an art-supply drive, to provide the McGlynn Middle School with much-needed supplies to keep these young artists learning and growing.

I am extremely proud of these students.”Mushroom by Owen Bailey

Every student at McGlynn Middle School takes art classes that teach concepts of drawing, painting, pottery, and computer art. Students also study famous works and styles to inform their own creative exploration of art in the classroom. Students are encouraged to harness their imagination to create and think critically about their own artwork and that of others.

“I love creating art because you can escape, but not really go anywhere,” says seventh grader Emma deRosas, a student of Ms. Corleto. “When someone creates art, they feel very concentrated and focused; they can put everything out of their minds.”

The public can support blooming artists by donating art supplies at the gallery opening on May 26. View the wish list at www.springstep.org.
