Mustangs Win it in Extra Innings

It was a pitcher’s battle that Medford eventually won on Tuesday afternoon with a 2-1 victory over Framingham at Playstead Park.

The Mustangs picked up the victory in extra innings and used both aces to seal the deal. Senior captain Chris Salvati pitched six “excellent” innings, allowing only two hits and striking out five. At the end of six innings Salvati had thrown a staggering 97 pitches and senior Danny Gilchrist came in and tossed two innings of hitless ball to help lift his team to victory.

Chris Hayes and Steve Scire “were big at the plate,” said Head Coach Mike Nestor. Hayes was 3-4 with two runs scored while Scire was 2-4 with the game-winning double. John Lavoie contributed an RBI.

The Mustangs are 9-2 heading into their 4:00pm game at Somerville on Thursday. They are also on the road on Saturday at Framingham.

Senior captain Chris Salvati is one of the Mustangs’ aces on the mound. Salvati is also an offensive leader with a .438 batting average.
